Dr. Atherly came to our practice from the San Diego area after serving the in US Military providing quality dental care to our Marines. He is a Dean’s List graduate from the University of Pittsburgh and is a proud recipient of the Robert Zugsmith Memorial Scholarship Award for Meritorious Academic and Clinical Achievements.
Dr. Atherly takes pride in his work and his primary goal is to provide exceptional dental care to his patients while offering a full range of dental & cosmetic options such as Clear Correct (similar to Invisalign), Veneers and Implants. Dr. Atherly is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and received his Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
While not at the office, Dr. Atherly enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife and two children, outdoor activities and is actively involved in his church.
Dr. Brandon Erickson grew up in El Dorado Hills and is thrilled to bring his wealth of skills, years of dentistry experience and expertise to Pebble Beach Dental, in Fair Oaks, CA. Dr. Erickson received his BS from Brigham Young University and his DDS from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Erickson shares in Dr. Atherly’s conservative treatment philosophies and his passion for creating and maintaining overall health. He has been a practice owner and has worked in general and pediatric offices. He has also practiced dentistry in 10 different countries! Needless to say, Dr. Erickson is a great fit at Pebble Beach Dental, in Fair Oaks, CA.
When he’s not taking care of patients, Dr. Erickson can be found outdoors doing just about anything active. He loves hiking, biking, camping, and playing basketball or tennis in his spare time.
Dr. Gary William Sumner is a highly experienced, California-licensed dentist dedicated to providing exceptional care in all aspects of dentistry. With decades of hands-on expertise, he is known for his compassionate approach, painless techniques, and commitment to helping patients achieve healthy, confident smiles. Dr. Sumner is board certified in oral sedation and has completed extensive advanced training in Invisalign, cosmetic dentistry, endodontics, crown and bridge, extractions, dentures, and partial dentures.
Dr. Sumner currently practices as an associate dentist at Oroville Gentle Dentistry, where he has served since 2016. Before that, he owned and operated Wildwood Dental for nearly 20 years, from 1997 to 2016, building a reputation for high-quality care and strong patient trust.

- Advanced restorative and occlusion training at Spear Education in Scottsdale, Arizona
- Endodontic training through Buchanan’s Art of Endodontics in Santa Barbara, California
- Extensive experience in dental extractions and in designing and fabricating full and partial dentures
With a proven history of successful private practice, Dr. Sumner is recognized for his gentle chairside manner, effective communication, and efficient, patient-focused care.
Personal Interests
Outside the office, Dr. Sumner enjoys an active lifestyle that includes golfing, fishing, water skiing, and a lifelong passion for wrestling, baseball, and football. He has wrestled competitively for the USAF Freestyle Team, Ball State University, and California State University, Sacramento.
Dr. Sumner is also deeply committed to youth sports and community involvement. He has coached Penn Valley Little League, Junior Miner football in Grass Valley, NU Kids Wrestling, and Goldmine Wrestling. He served as head wrestling coach at Pleasant Valley Middle School and Nevada Union High School, where his son, Will Sumner, was team captain. Dr. Sumner proudly dedicated over twenty years to coaching and mentoring young athletes in Grass Valley.
Stephanie joined our team in 2004 and has extensive training as an extended functions dental assistant. This is a very limited and specialized group of dental assistants.
She completed her extended training at the UCSF school of dentistry. Stephanie is blissfully married and a happy mother of two. Her hobbies include running, boating and camping.
Deanna comes to Pebble Beach Dental with over 20 years of experience in the dental field. She is passionate about helping patients achieve their dental goals and providing quality care. Outside of work, Deanna enjoys spending time with her husband, Tim, on their ranch with their many farm animals. She also loves hosting barbecues and tending to her garden.
Hello! I am Elizabeth and I have grown up in a dental family. My uncle, and my dad were dentists, both were practice owners for over 40 years. My first job out of high school was working part time for my dad as his dental assistant and then in 2016 I began working full time beside him in his office until his retirement. Pebble Beach Dental of Grass Valley has been my home since April of 2024. Working here as an RDA allows me to make friends daily, grow my skills, and serve people in need. I love my work, hometown, music, Jesus, and family trips to visit all of the states capitols. So far I have visited 34 states with all of their national parks and toured 14 state capitols.
I am a native Californian having lived in both Northern and Southern California. I started my career in dentistry as an RDA before attending the University of Southern California School of Dentistry for dental hygiene. After most of my years in Sacramento, I decided to take the leap up to beautiful Grass Valley in 2022.
Since then, I’ve joined Pebble Beach Dental and am thoroughly enjoying it here. The doctors and staff are truly skilled professionals, and I have been establishing relationships with so many wonderful patients. Building trust and rapport is so important to me.
